Driving throughout the streets of South East San Diego, I saw two hand-rendered typefaces that had the potential to be combined and make a new typeface, Go-Poke. By deconstructing each typeface into three basic characteristics, I was able to build the foundation of my typography.
Geometric, sans-serif, same-stroke width, rounded corners, condensed, and some slanted pieces (in reference to the italic) are some of the characteristics of the display typeface.
Once the typeface was completed, I was able to use it as a bold representation of my heritage and culture. What better way to bring the type to life than by recreating my own version of the Loteria (Mexican bingo). The concepts behind the Monarca Loteria are based around Motherhood, First-gen College Student and the Chicana identities.

As a final project for my photography class, I was given the task of shooting a series of photographs. After a wresting with a few concepts, I knew I wanted these photographs to be meaningful and impactful.
I decided to create a series of photographs of diverse Daughters of Immigrants. In this heated political climate, I wanted to make a statement with these photographs and share a piece of our story.
My work at the YMCA, involvement with Ability Ally, and personal experience inspired the concept of creating an app that provides immediate stress-relief to those experiencing mild to moderate anxiety.

Mind Over Matter is a start-up application that focuses on the mental health of busy individuals who are looking for an easy, immediate, stress-releiving app.
_________________________________
OBJECTIVE:
There are a number of apps available to help with mindfulness, meditation, and stress-reduction. Some of the best have great ux/ui, are appealing, and do create a sense of reducing stress. However, these same apps can get very complex, which is ultimately overwhelming to someone who is experiencing sweaty palms, stomach pain, or rapid breathing right before doing a presentation in front of a group of people.

SOLUTION:
The solution lies in developing an app that is clean, simple, and straightforward. It has to be. In order to actually help its users, the app should provide simple grounding tools and skills that could be used at any time and place to help reduce the stress of someone who is going through mild to moderate anxiety.
